The holiday season is here! The sugar-filled, calendar-packed, holiday season. It’s only the first week of November and I’ve already double-booked my family for two major events due to not checking the calendar first. Where is my head? It’s deep in stress-mode! There’s no doubt that between dressing the turkey and decking the halls a lot of stress develops. Stress is something that can be managed, even in the busiest time of the year. It’s said, “The best time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.”--this couldn’t be more true in the upcoming weeks!
I challenge you, over the next 2 months, to find 30 minutes a day, for as many days as you can, to plan some rest and recovery work to destress. Here are a few ideas to get you started (many which are at low or no cost and can be done here at Sportsplex!)
Yoga and Pilates Popularized in the last few years, certain types of yoga and Pilates are very relaxing.
Meditation This type of activity is also a huge help with rest and recovery.
Spa Treatments Spa treatments often help achieve that deep parasympathetic state.
Jacuzzi/Sauna This can also help in the war on stress.
Reading Reading in a quiet spot 30 minutes before bed
Zoning Out Drinking warm tea and staring out at the sunset
Music and Wine Drinking a glass of red wine and listening to music before bed
Bath and Candles Lighting candles and having an Epsom salts bath
Remember, the goal isn’t to stress you out more, but to add relaxation to your day. Even doing something once a week is going to help you thrive in this season. Health and wellness is more than a number on the scale or an image in a mirror. Stress can do awful things to your body, and just like building muscle, you can do something about it!
I hope you all enjoy what we have in store for member appreciation week, and it helps you to feel loved and less stressed!
